Hi, thank you for checking out my bio!

I am very excited to be teaching guitar at Watermelon Music and sharing my passion for playing guitar with you.

For as long as I can remember, music has been a huge part of my life. From the first time I touched a toy guitar in the 4th grade, I knew it would be my instrument. I grew up in a musical family where my dad played guitar.

Throughout elementary and middle school, I played in bands and church choirs. I played in jazz ensembles and combos during my high school years. Currently I am a member of the UC Davis Jazz Bands and Combos.

I also perform as a solo fingerstyle artist in the Davis area under the name katgrüvs. Some of the events and venues I’ve performed at include Picnic Day, Whole Earth Festival, Sudwerk Brewery, Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA, and the Mondavi Center. I compose my own music, arrange popular songs for solo guitar, and cover the music of fingerstyle artists like Andy McKee, Preston Reed, and Michael Hedges.

I have taught guitar throughout high school at Good Stuff Guitars in Martinez, CA and recently at Music and More in Antioch, CA, where I teach beginner to advanced students of all ages different styles of music ranging from pop, jazz, acoustic, and rock. My teaching methods include a focus on ear training, reading and writing standard notation and tab as core skills. We can also learn songs of your choosing and delve into writing your own music, with a balance of technique and creativity always in mind.  My goal is to make learning guitar a fun and transforming experience for you!

I am currently a senior pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at UC Davis. Please visit katgruvs.com for more information. I’m looking forward to meeting you!
