With this E minor piano sonata, Classical-era composer Haydn created a work that displays positively romantic traits. Agitation and excitement are expressed in the main ideas of the first movement, while contrasting seriousness and cheerfulness come into sharp relief in the finale. Of Haydn's sixty-or-so piano sonatas, the E minor Sonata numbers are among those of moderate difficulty.
