"Crossing Over" Workshop

Making the Transition from Electric to

Double Bass

 Monday, July 27th, 7:00pm - FREE

Are you an electric bassist intrigued by the timeless sound and style of the double bass?

On Monday, July 27th, bassist and educator Michael Schwagerus will give a free workshop for bassists (and anyone else) who would like to understand the real differences in technique and approach between electric and acoustic bass playing.

This workshop will be useful to those interested in classical, jazz and contemporary styles of playing.  Topics covered will include:

  • Concrete methods to improve intonation.
  • Moving toward "the Big Sound"
  • Getting into bowing, and the differences between French and German-style bows
  • How to incorporate the double bass into various genres-rock, jazz, classical, etc.

The workshop will conclude with a performance of string bass quartets by Michael and friends.

"Crossing Over" will be held at

Watermelon Music

207 E Street in Downtown Davis.
