Developing Your Own Voice on the Drumset FREE! Thursday, March 18, 2010 - 7:00PM Watermelon Music is pleased to present Drummer and Percussionist Alex Jenkins in an In-Store Clinic designed for drummers of all ages and ability levels. Alex has done a couple of clinics for us previously, and succeeds in bending the minds of nearly everyone in attendance. In this clinic, Alex will focus on a few topics, including: Theme and Variation for drum set A creative approach for coming up with new ideas in all styles of music. Expand what you already know and come up with your own ideas using this unique and innovative process developed by Alex. Practice tips Get the most out of your practice time by utilizing a few simple steps that will be outlined during this workshop. Head and stick selection Much of the sound that comes from a drum set has to do with the type of heads and sticks you use. Learn about the differences between various brands on the market and hear the difference in sound and tonal quality each has. * * * * * Alex Jenkins, Percussionist/Drum Set Artist and Music Educator performs and records regularly around California playing a variety of music (on both Drum set and Tabla) including, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Fusion, Indian Classical and just about everything in between. In 2005, Alex won a SAMMIE (Sacramento Music Award) for his work on the self titled “Daisy Spot” record release. In 2008, he won a second SAMMIE for his work with the ROSS HAMMOND TRIO. Currently, Alex teaches percussion at William Land Elementary School, Sacramento City College, North Davis Elementary, Howe Ave. Elementary and out of his home studio in Sacramento. Alex currently has over 100 drum students. In addition, he has done workshops and clinics for various schools, including CSUS, American River College, Cosumnes River College, UC Merced, Wood Creek High School, Orange Open Middle School, Citrus Heights Elementary, Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, The Drum Lab, Davis Waldorf School, Whitney Elementary and various music stores around California.
